The legendary 990 is one of the most successful running silhouettes in the entire New Balance catalogue. The combination of performance technology and refined but unassuming style imbue the 990 with a versatility that makes it an essential that transcends boundaries.
Unlike a lot of classic styles, which go unchanged for decades, New Balance has freely tweaked with the 990s design over time, arriving at their fifth variation of the shoe, the 990v5. The addition of additional cushioning, the rearrangement of the upper's mesh and suede, and a fully reflective U.S. flag emblem on the tongue make for a subtle streamlining of the classic design, which thanks to a familiar, tonal grey colorway and made in the USA construction, is still readily recognizable to 990 die-hards.
